WHAT IS A FNA TEST? A Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) test is a minimally invasive procedure used to evaluate abnormalities in the thyroid gland, such as nodules or lumps. This diagnostic test involves using a very thin, hollow needle to extract a small sample of cells from a suspicious area in the thyroid, which is then examined under a microscope by a pathologist. FNA is a safe and widely used technique that helps determine whether a thyroid nodule is benign (non-cancerous) or malignant (cancerous). WHY A FNA TEST? An FNA test is recommended if: * A thyroid nodule is detected during a physical exam or imaging study. * There is a family history or personal history of thyroid disease or cancer. * The thyroid gland appears to be enlarged or irregular. * You are experiencing symptoms such as difficulty swallowing or hoarseness. HOW TO PREPARE FOR A FNA TEST? 1. Eat Normally: There is no need to fast; you may eat and drink normally unless otherwise instructed. 2. Wear Comfortable Clothing: Wear a top that allows easy access to your neck. 3. It is mandatory to suspend any BLOOD THINNER medicine at least SEVEN (7) days before the procedure.
